Stretching yourself with Eisenhower Health @ Home

Hey there,
There's no doubt we're all being stretched in ways many of us have never experienced or imagined before. As you stretch yourself, your routine, or what you make space for in your life, we hope you'll find offerings or messages in our weekly Wednesday newsletter to help you along your way. Meanwhile, you can make sure you stretch your body just as much with Eisenhower Health @ Home tonight.
By the way, a special thanks to 16% of respondents from last week who let us know they have some creative ideas about programming. We're looking forward to reading the proposals that have come through so far, and more that might come.
For the moment, let us know how your footing with food is this week:

Your Feel Good Story of the Week

On the Line
Lew is a familiar face at The Center, where he volunteered Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings at the front desk before the pandemic. With the closing of The Center's physical building came the opening of free time in Lew's weekly schedule. But these days, Lew's time is full, and part of that is due to a new role he's taken on as a volunteer -- making regular phone calls to folks who've self-identified as wanting more connection and (phone) contact in their lives.
Last month, you may recall we asked if you had at least one person you could talk to everyday. That one question set off a coordinated team response to immediately connect lonely or isolated people with phone buddies -- people they had never met before in person, yet were willing to lend a listening ear and begin to build a bond.
So for the past month, Lew is one of several volunteers who has been doing just that with two people regularly. Offering a safe, non-judgmental space to create connection over the phone has been an honor for Lew, and one that he feels he is gaining something meaningful from, like the realization of how much they have in common with each other, despite never knowing one another before this. Having marked birthdays, commemorating a husband who has passed, or just sharing recent Netflix gems, Lew is delivering on our commitment to end isolation and loneliness, and connect people to community. And while he has yet to see either person and what they look like -- no phone or FaceTime or video -- Lew paints a picture in his head of the day he can meet each of them in person, for a coffee or a meal. Plus, thanks to Lew's front desk experience, he's had the perfect recommendations for programs and offerings that they can find and join at The Center once it re-opens.
We are all connected. It's about finding the lines that connect us, and mustering the courage to hop on.
