The LGBT Community Center of the Desert (“The Center”) is pleased to announce the launch of SAGEWorks. SAGEWorks is a course for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender older adults.  People of all ages may apply, but applicants 55 and older who are Center members will be given preference. This seven week course is designed to provide in-depth instruction on how to increase your competitive edge in the job market.  The course will cover job skills training, particularly software proficiency, in addition to resume writing, interviewing, and job search strategies. 

Here’s the vital information: 

  • Applications are available at The Center, via email and on our web site.  Students must apply and be invited to attend, due to space limitations.  Class administrators will select the students whose needs are the best match for the structure of the program.
  • The deadline to apply for this cycle is Friday, May 18th, 2012. 
  • The Center will enroll 8 students in the course and choose 2 alternates.
  • The course is intended for people who really need it, will fully participate and are serious about applying themselves.
  • Course meeting times are to be June 4 – July 20, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 to noon.  There will be two special presentations for the entire community announced during the term of the class, which are also required.  Students must fully commit to the entire schedule.
  • The classes will be staffed by a computer instructor, professional recruiters and placement specialists, and regional employers – offering participants a variety exposure to important resources.
  • This program is funded nationally by the Walmart Foundation, SAGEWorks is also offered in New York, Chicago, St. Louis and Denver.

Week 2: Computer courses and online database instruction
Week 3: Computer courses and online database instruction
Week 4: Resume reviews and computer courses
Week 5: Resume workshops and computer courses
Week 6: Interview workshops and computer courses
Week 7: Interview workshops and computer courses
 

Course Fees:
$50.00 for members
$100 for non-members. Membership rates begin at $25.00 annually.
