Chronicling the life of Heather Booth, a lifelong progressive organizer, the film follows her journey from civil rights activist in the '60s to her founding of the Midwest Academy, a training institute for progressive community organizers. As a teenager, she spent time in Israel, where a visit to Yad Vashem moved her to make a commitment to fight against injustice. For more than 40 years, she has been a major force in the movement for women's rights and economic justice. The film features interviews with Senator Elizabeth Warren and other organizers, as well as current Midwest Academy students, who explore Booth's legacy.
Special panel with Heather Booth, Christine Pelosi, & Darrah DiGiorgio Johnson to follow!

Brookdale Palm Springs

We Assist Senior Living in Palm Springs, CA

Brookdale Palm Springs is an exceptional southern California senior living community that provides Assisted Living and Memory Care. We serve seniors and their families from Palm Springs as well as Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, and other nearby towns and neighborhoods in Coachella Valley, Morongo Valley, and Yucca Valley.

Against a backdrop of the San Jacinto Mountains, our campus displays the look of a desert resort on 4-1/2 acres in a residential neighborhood, located near the intersection of East Baristo and South Sunrise Way, with easy access to Highway 111 and Interstate 10. We are next to Sunrise Park and the Palm Springs Library, and just a few blocks away from a variety of shops, restaurants, banks, museums, The Plaza at Sunrise Shopping Center, a CVS, a Rite Aid, Camelot Movie Theaters, and the Mizell Senior Center.

We also enjoy the security of having Palm Springs Healthcare, Desert Oasis Healthcare, and the Desert Regional Medical Center nearby.

We are regarded as a premier senior care community in this region because of the relationships we form with families who entrust us with the well-being of their loved ones.

We offer two categories of care:

  • Assisted Living
This lifestyle option is for seniors who need a little help with mobility and daily tasks from trained caregivers while enjoying the convenience of resort services and the privacy of their own apartment. Assisted Living offers residents the specific type of personalized aid they need to make their lives easier and healthier, while enabling them to live as independently as possible.
  • Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care
Our state-of-the-art Clare Bridge Program employs the latest research as well as the knowledge base and experience of Brookdale, the largest provider of Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care in the nation. Our programs can help your loved one maintain their mental functions and enjoy the satisfaction and dignity of daily moments of success.

The Community Food Bank

The Community Food Bank @ The Center is a flagship initiative that provides nutritional assistance for those in need. The Community Food Bank @ The Center provides food assistant to all qualified individuals without discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, age, religion, political persuasion, national origin, disability, and/or covered veteran status.

Every Thursday evening all year long, we host a clean, safe and accessible Food Bank that provides FREE groceries for over 275 households each week. Since 2008, the Food Bank at the Center has been providing groceries, baked goods, meat, and fresh produce to low-income Riverside County residents.  Proof of residency in Riverside County is required, and all are welcome if they meet these basic requirements. The Program served over 16,000 households last year and is often at capacity. In working to reduce and eliminate hunger for these families, we’re building advocacy networks that are addressing this issue, not only in the LGBTQ community, but county-wide.

We strive to provide the highest quality product at the lowest possible cost. By building relationships with area restaurants, food distributors and other social service providers we’re able to offer a generous grocery selection at a cost of only $10 per week! With your help, we can continue to provide a week’s worth of groceries to those in need. Please consider making a one-time gift of $10, $40, $100, or more. Or, make a monthly pledge of $10 or more below.

Non Perishable Food Donation Requests

We thank you for your generous, ongoing support of The Community Food Bank @The Center.

Both of these organizations provide food and assistance for those in need here in the Coachella Valley, a worthwhile cause any time of year.

**** White elephants" are traditionally presents that are undesirable but one cannot turn down: extremely tacky, nearly useless, silly or weird. In white elephant gift exchanges the goal is really to have fun. Most is to give everyone a chance to rid themselves of these tacky gifts—and invariably gain a new one!****
