6 Weeks - 12 Sessions (Tuesdays & Thursdays)
This class is for the beginner who wants to learn to draw as well as the established artist looking to brush up on basic skills. It is an intensive 6-week program in which participants will focus on shape, dimension, shadow and light, texture, perspective, scale, and other fundamental issues of drawing. Emphasis will be on learning to see objects in front of us in a way that makes it possible to effectively translate 3-D space to a 2-D surface.
This class is based on observation. It will utilize still life, beginning with basic shapes and progressing to common objects. Each class will begin with warm-ups, much like an exercise routine. The remainder of the session will be spent focusing on a particular aspect of drawing and may include technique exercises designed to expand specific skills. Class participants should be prepared to work hard in class and are encouraged to practice on their own between sessions. The effort will be rewarded with newly discovered or freshly honed skills.
