Dr. G's Corner
Dr. G and her team completed another very successful year of the Suicide Bullying Prevention Program. With Dr. G’s support, Linda Lechlitner, teacher extraordinaire, met with 17 Peer Educators for 7 weeks of intensive training from August until the end of October. In November the Peer Educators, well prepared to deliver Dr. G’s curriculum, went into every 9 th grade classroom and taught the students the three modules: The Power of Words (developing empathy, encouraging students to be “upstanders” and support their LGBTQ or gender non-conforming classmates); Cyberbullying (what it is and how to stop doing it); and Suicide Prevention (the warning signs, what to do and where to refer). The Peer Educators, who are high school seniors, did an outstanding job teaching the curriculum and being positive role models for the younger students. They received certificates, stipends, and community service credit for participating in the program. Dr. G would like to thank the administrators and teachers at the four Palm Springs USD high schools for their ongoing support of this valuable program.
